Culinary Vacations

According to the World Food Travel Association, Food Tourism is a one hundred and fifty billion dollar industry and one of the contributing factors is culinary vacations. Travelers enjoy these vacations because it allows them to not only enjoy a location with a different culture through sightseeing, cycling and touring, but also through learning how to cook and eat the foods from that specific location. Travelers want to submerge themselves in the culture, smells, and tastes of the region and what better way than cooking and eating to do this. It not only exposes them to a much-needed period of respite, it also gives them an authentic cultural and culinary experience. Below are a few examples of this trend:

Anantara Resort, Phuket – Spice Spoons Cooking School

Anantara Resort offers every eastern food lover’s dream vacation, by not having every activity one can imagine, but also an onsite cooking school. The Spice Spoon cooking school offers more than a cooking class as it allows the guest to go into the market to source the ingredients for the recipes which they will be using. After a morning at the market the guest return to the kitchen situated in La Sala – a Thai restaurant, to learn about Thai culture, cooking utensils, and get to cook the menu. There is also an option of creating your own menu and a food carving lesson. Have a look at the video below:

MasterChef Cruise

Endemol Shine North America, producers of the MasterChef television series and Life Journeys, a global event production company, has joined forces to create the ultimate grand supreme dream for MasterChef fans – a MasterChef Cruise. The seven day cruise will explore Caribbean Islands and will give guests a chance to not only snorkel and scuba dive in the clear blue sea, but also an opportunity to immerse themselves in a culinary experience with MasterChef Allstar Team. There will be cooking demonstrations, question and answer sessions, hands-on mystery box challenges, battle of homes cooks, and a pressure test .

Cycling Piedmont

VBT, the oldest bicycle vacation company in the United States of America, has seen a great opportunity in Piedmont by creating a vacation that combines physical activity, exploration and the immersion into the regions slow food movement . Their Piedmont cycling vacation package allows guests to spend a week in Piedmont learning about wine and grass production, sampling some of the delicious food, hunting for truffles in the farmland, making their own wood fire pizza and still finding time to relax after a day of exhilarating and enlightening activities. VBT also offers other cycling and hiking packages for other parts of the world. Another company that offers similar packages is Duvine Cycling & Adventures Co.
