GEN Z 2020 – Architects of our New World Order

In 2015 (when corporate companies were still struggling to manage a millennial workforce), Flux Trends launched a trend briefing entitled: GEN Z: the real game changing generation.

At the time, we were already convinced that this generation was going to have a significant impact, not only as consumers, but also as a future workforce.

Five years later our instincts have stood ground.

As the first generation of true digital natives, their high – and unwavering – social justice barometer has ensured that their support for causes, from gun control to climate change, has placed them in the global spotlight, even before they finish high school.

Greta Thunberg and her cohorts (love them or hate them) are already showing the world what fervour and digital connectivity can do, and brands and businesses should be taking note. The oldest Gen Z’s were born in the mid-90’s, which means they are coming of age, entering your workforce and coalescing into a new frontline consumer group.

But now there is a new lens shaping their outlook.

As we noted in a previous trend observation: Zoomers vs Boomers .

The COVID-19 pandemic will be a defining life event for Generation Z, much the same way 9/11 and the 2008 global financial crisis shaped the millennial generation’s views on global politics and economics.

It will reaffirm their convictions around climate change, corporate greed, social inequality, and global solidarity. It will also give them impetus to shout out, “I told you so” to an irascible older generation.

The post-pandemic, new world order, which the world will struggle to adapt to, is what Gen Z’s have been waiting for. As the first generation of true digital natives, the courage of their convictions will converge into a potent force that will reengineer the old-world order in the next decade.

In this briefing we explore what their impact will be on your business: as customers as well as a workforce.

This trend briefing will unpack the following insights:

  • The significance of being a first generation, digital native: why that changes everything.
  • Why they have such an unwavering social justice barometer, and what that impact is going to have on brands and businesses
  • How their approach to career portfolios, rather than linear career trajectories, will reshape HR and the future of work.
  • The tech tools they use, how to reach them, and why we call them, “The ‘old souls’ of cyberspace”.
  • Gen ZA: the differences (and similarities) between Gen Z’s in South Africa and their global counterparts

This trend presentation is a must for any business who is starting to employ a gen Z workforce.

Retailers, brand managers, anyone in advertising or marketing, specifically, should take note.

Any parents of Gen Z’s who are wondering what the jobs of the future might be

We will provide you with a deeper understanding of this generation’s psyche and pragmatic approach to life. This generation has surpassed the size of the millennial generation and is said to have a greater impact on the world, not only as consumers but also as a socio-political force that will re-engineer our New World Order in the coming decade.
