A consolidation of the work done at our recent Scenarios for South Africa Salon, this report gives you a glimpse of what this country’s probable, preferable and possible futures could be like.

Using our T.R.E.N.D.S framework, this report explores three scenarios for the South Africa of 2044. The scenarios take the form of short stories looking back from the year 2044 to the present time from the perspective of three Generation Z South Africans. Between 18 and 20 years of age, they will be between 38- and 40 years old in the described parallel universe futures.

The three scenarios are:

1. The Status Quo: The Probable Future
2. Lord of the Flies: The Possible Future
3. Bridgebuilders: The Preferable Future
